Hello Hennie,
We’ve rented many 4×4’s in our many excursions through the African bush with varying success. I can say that the Isuzu KB 300 diesel you gave us was tops on our list. In 78 days we drove it 12,000 km with at least half of the driving time off pavement. In Botswana, the wet conditions of Moremi and deep sand of Savuti were taken in stride. We went from south to north in Kafue NP in Zambia and grew more confident in the Isuzu in the varying conditions encountered. Our big challenge was in Zimbabwe as we went off the remote Karoi – Benga road paralleling Lake Kariba down into Tashinga in Matusadona and then up onto the Chizarrira escarpment. The Isuzu never even broke a sweat as we picked our way through washed out roads.
You’d expect such a tough truck to be compromised for freeway cruising but not the case, it rides and drives like a sedan at highway speed. We carried a second tank full of diesel in jerry cans until we realized we were getting 600 km per 78 liter tankful regardless of the driving done, 4×4 or 2×4! Just sorry we can’t buy this truck in U.S.A. Thanks for a great experience and the attentive service.
Best,
Claude and Barbara Mayfield
